3 Tips to Never Having Nothing to Wear Again

PART 2

In the last section, we wrote down your routines and goals, so if you haven’t read that section, pop over there before moving on! :)

Now it’s time to whip out your Pinterest, but not like you have before! Instead of pinning just because it’s so cute, we’re pinning with “omg this is so cute!” meets “omg this has purpose!”. And don’t worry, we’re breaking down EXACTLY how to do that, but first, we have to get into the right mindset.

Ignore everyone - including your “higher self.”

You may or may not know the beef I have with our “higher selves” (you can read here if you’d like!) BUT it is so so so important to not let anyone’s idea of what is cool, pretty, fun, exciting, cute cloud what you find to be any of those things! Often, the “self-help” world makes your “higher self” the perfect one and current you the “lesser one” by their standards. So I urge you to tune out the noise. Even if it’s your own inner voice saying “omg I could never wear that for xyz reason”, ignore that too! Follow what excites you, what makes you happy, and what you genuinely find to be so fun! Trust those nudges, and follow that joy!

Oh that’s sooo good!!

Alright, here goes! Open up your trust Pinterest, and go straight to your profile! The first thing you’re going to do, is create a new board. You can title it something cute or you can steal mine and call it “my style”!

Next, you’re going to take out the lists we made in the last section, and you’re going to create folders for each place your calendar takes you or each activity you’re going to.

To take it a step further, I want you to create versions of these folders for each season! For example, you would create a folder for spring/summer workout wear and one for fall/ winter. The same goes for work, nights out, kids drop off, etc. Because as the weather changes, we physically need different items, and our style slightly shifts! A great example is that in the Fall/Winter I love to wear jeans with thick sweaters because I hateeee to be cold, but in the Spring/ Summer I’d muchhh rather wear a cutie dress or skirt with a heel because that is what makes me feel the most me!

Now that your folders are made, it’s time for the fun, creative part! You’ll want 10-15 photos for each board. This will give you enough data to find themes within the photos. With this said, if you’re drawn to the person or environment or body type in the photo, move on. You’ll notice that a big theme in this series is to stop the comparison trap, and to meet yourself with excitement for where you are! Only use photos where you love the outfit, colors, textures, silhouettes, etc.

Once you have your photos, it’s time to break out the pen and paper again, but this time we’re starting the first draft of your shopping list!!! Going through each board, start to take note of what you actually like about the outfits. You’ll start to notice a pattern between colors, shapes, textures, and even silhouettes.

Jot down what you’re drawn to, and try not to fixate on the exact pieces! I promise you, finding those items in the price point you feel good with is a needle in a haystack and leads to a lot of unnecessary frustration (please learn from my mistakes hahaha). Making notes of what you love in each folder, including physical items you know that you don’t have, will help a ton!

For example:

In my movement board, you’ll notice a ton of color, oversized silhouettes, and lots of layers (some of which aren’t even traditional activewear pieces!). You’ll also notice repeated pins of vests and ear muffs. Both of which I didn’t own when making this board, but I had made running a goal of mine, and movement is a part of my daily routines, so having these pieces would allow me to both continue with my current daily routines and allow me to move “running” from my goal list into my weekly schedule! Then I wrote down on my draft shopping list: movement: bright colors, oversized silhouettes, a vest, ear muffs! Get your list together because, in part three of this series, we’re taking all of your lists and heading into your closet!
