Your Guide to Personal Style | Style Series

Alright, we’re breaking it down - everything you need to find your personal style in a mini series! Because getting dressed can be exciting, and instead of trying to look effortless, the process actually can feel that way! Dare we say that maybe you’ll even have fun?! The way we start the day matters! The way you feel about the way you look matters! The better you feel, the more present you’ll be, and the more “you” the world will get to experience, and THAT is exactly why your personal style is sooo important!

#1 Know Yourself

Your mind might be going blank right now (kind of like when you’re asked to share a fun fact about yourself at work), and that’s okay! All you need to know are a few key details, so grab a paper and pen or trusty notes app!!

  1. What are your routines? Daily, Weekly, Monthly, and even Yearly! What does your schedule actually look like? Do you have a workout class, kid pick-up, do you work from home, or are you in the office? Do you have a book club or church on Sundays? Maybe you do a weekly date night or maybe dinner with your friends? Maybe you’re shuffling between kids’ birthday parties, sporting events, and play dates! Wherever your schedule takes you, write it down. Make four sections: Daily - Where you are going every day or most days (even if it’s your house - sometimes the biggest hole in people’s closets is their pajama section!), Weekly - What are you doing once or twice a week, Monthly - These are events or places that you occupy no more than 3x per month, Yearly - think special occasions like birthdays, travel, holidays, or even things that happen quarterly!

  2. What are your goals? Personally, I would call these promptings from the Holy Spirit - the things that dwell within you, that are never changing or demanding, they are simply consistent and pique your interest. Not things that you feel you should do. And as we all know, just because we’re interested in them doesn’t mean they’ve made their way onto our calendar! These could be new hobbies like sewing, pottery, or gardening. Or your goals could be to join a workout class or a book club. Maybe it’s to have regular date nights! They could also be bigger, like if you’re looking to move to a new place, or go on a trip, or even throw a party! Whatever your goals are, just make sure they’re achievable within this year! Jot all of your goals down and organize them within a new list that has the same columns of daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly.

Keep these lists readily available because they are so important! We’re going to reference them throughout this series, and they’ll help you find the “holes” in your closet - aka the pieces you’re missing to fully show up and do the things on those lists! AND they’ll show you your comfort zone and where you’ve been over-buying! PLUS, instead of those goals staying on the goals list, you’re actually going to be getting what you NEED + LOVE to move them to your actual calendar!! <3
